Eric McClure/ No. 24 Hefty Odor Block Ford Fusion Post Race Report

Post Race Report: Camping World RV Sales 200

New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Loudon, NH (June 28, 2009)— Eric McClure and the No. 24 Rensi-Hamilton Racing team encountered struggles during practice on Friday, which continued through the race on Saturday. Qualifying in the 41st position, McClure fought the handling on the car throughout the entire 200-lap event and ended the day with a broken oil line fitting on lap 182 to finish in the 33rd position. With this finish, the RHR team fell one position (29th) in the NASCAR owner standings.

“I really can’t believe we had another mechanical failure today. This makes four out of the last six races and we have lost a tremendous amount of points over the past few weeks. We were really getting strong prior to Nashville, but in particular the last two weeks we’ve struggled with this racecar. We made adjustments but nothing seemed to help tremendously on the long run and there were limited cautions so that hurt us as well as far as opportunities to adjust. I just hope we can go to Daytona and have a finish these guys deserve.”

Starting the race from the 41st position, the No. 24 Hefty® Odor Block™ Ford gained seven positions by lap 10 and was able to maintain it until the car started losing front grip, forcing the driver to back up his entry and roll through the center without using the brake. As a result, valuable time was lost to the race leader and McClure slid back to the 36th position. As the race progressed, the handling continued to worsen and the team was finally able to bring the car to pit-road to receive tires, fuel, and a chassis adjustment when the first caution occurred on lap 50. When the race resumed, RHR was scored in the 33rd position.

At the halfway point of the 200-lap event, McClure was still fighting the same handling issues as before and the car had now become tight in the center and loose on exit. Additional chassis adjustments were received when the second caution occurred on lap 105 and RHR was shown in the 32nd position when the race resumed on lap 110.

On lap 179 McClure brought the car to pit road after heavy smoke began trailing the No. 24 machine. After realizing the issue was terminal, the team took the car to the garage for the remainder of the event. Marking only the second DNF of the season for RHR, the team was scored in the 33rd position at the conclusion of the Camping World RV Sales 200.

RENSI – HAMILTON RACING CHANGING WITH THE TIMES

Without a doubt, the financial landscape of NASCAR is changing.  Many teams are struggling to find the financial support they have become accustomed to, teams have shut down and others have merged operations.  Longtime NASCAR Nationwide Series team Rensi-Hamilton Racing has gone back to the drawing board to develop a new financial model that will allow the organization to continue to compete and possibly add another racing team to the mix.

Under the leadership of veteran racers Ed Rensi, Gary Weisbaum, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and Ronnie Russell, Rensi-Hamilton has tightened their belts in an effort to become a more economical choice for potential sponsors.  In the past, team’s required $5-6 million for a full season effort.  With a reconstruction of their financial model, the team is in position now to offer a new sponsor the opportunity to pair with five-time winner, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. for half that amount. Associate sponsors will see dramatic savings over last years with RHR as well.

You may ask, how can a team offer this?   At Rensi-Hamilton Racing, many things have changed.  The team will drive to most every race now,  less hotel rooms will be required, lower cost hotels are being used, motor coaches have been eliminated, employees have agreed to take lower salaries, engine lease programs have been modified to find substantial savings and the team is looking into sharing a shop with another organization to reduce costs.
This is an organization willing to do whatever it takes to continue to operate and compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

“We have spent the last few months reviewing every expenditure for the last ten years in an effort to reduce our costs in today’s climate,” said Co-owner Gary Weisbaum. “We have an outstanding group of employees and everyone is dedicated to maintaining a united company and offering our potential sponsors the biggest bang possible for their money.”

Rensi-Hamilton Racing has already announced they will operate one car with Eric McClure and sponsor Hefty.  With one more financial partner, the team can operate a second car and lower operating costs even more.  To speak with Rensi-Hamilton Racing about full or limited season opportunities, please call Gary Weisbaum at 847-714-3503.

BOBBY HAMILTON, JR. AND TEAM RENSI MOTORSPORTS JOIN FORCES TO FORM RENSI-HAMILTON RACING

Two of the NASCAR Nationwide Series icons have joined together to form Rensi/Hamilton Racing!  After driving for long time team owner Ed Rensi for many years, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. has now placed his name alongside the famed Rensi name to form Rensi/Hamilton Racing.  The newly named team will field entries in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Series and ARCA.

“My late father started his own race team with the long term goal of building something very special for me to drive for,” Hamilton said.  With his death nearly two years ago, his dream obviously took a huge hit.  Something he had worked very hard for was suddenly gone.  By combining forces with Ed Rensi and Gary Weisbaum and merging my teams that I had based in Nashville with their organization, we can put my father’s dreams back into motion.   He taught me so much about how this sport works and how to own a race team, now I can bring that knowledge to Ed Rensi and his ownership group and we can move forward once again.  I believe my Dad would be very happy to know that I am going to own a Nationwide Series team as well as continue on in the Camping World Series and ARCA.”

Ed Rensi has competed in the Nationwide Series for ten years; five of them saw Hamilton as the driver of his car.
“Bobby is a special friend and I am very excited to have him take on an ownership role in the organization.  I promised his father before he passed away that I would always be there to help Bobby with anything he needed.  It gives me great pleasure to know we are going to work together to see him reach the dream owned by Bobby Hamilton, Sr.”

With the new ownership now in place, the team is searching hard for the right marketing partner that will allow Bobby to continue to climb back behind the wheel. The organization will announce soon a sponsor and driver combination to compete in the No. 35 Rensi/Hamilton Racing Ford.  Announcements are also forthcoming for the Camping World Series car and ARCA car.   The focus is now directed on locating the sponsor that would like to market their products on a car driven by Bobby Hamilton, a five time winner in the Nationwide Series.
Rensi and Hamilton realize that sponsors have challenges in today’s economic climate and their goal is to provide a more diversified product for them.  By running in multiple series, a sponsor can take what they have budgeted and still receive quality results.

“Sponsors have pressures on their budgets, immense pressures however retaining current customers and capturing new business still remains the “Number One” mission,” said Ed Rensi.  “Many current sponsors and those who would like to be in the sport need a product that will fit their budget needs. That’s what our 2009 efforts are all about.”

“Sponsorship and brand activation remains a significant tool to help companies accomplish their sales and marketing goals, it’s just that costs have to come down to be in line with what companies have to spend. Offering multiple series opportunities will allow our team to offer sponsors local, regional and national marketing opportunities that fit almost any budget.”

As thoughts turn to the 2009 NASCAR season, Rensi/Hamilton Motorsports are working very hard to find new marketing partners.  The team will adjust their racing plans according to sponsorship.  The name may be different on top of the race shop now, but one thing remains; a commitment to delivering the best effort possible for all marketing partners.
